Of Two Minds synthesizes a number of leading technologies, including AI, VR and ChatGPT. This blending of technologies enables the user to experience the real-time interaction of human intelligence with hybrid AI in a particularly vivid way. It is the first Collaborative AI artwork to create an intimate conversational immersive experience using a cognitive hybrid model that responds extemporaneously and in real-time, which simultaneously contributes to the avatar’s ability to engage in evermore complex and nuanced dialogues.
The Bunker series displays the spacious interiors of several rooms inside so-called doomsday bunkers. These structures are often built inside former missile silos, several hundred feet below ground. I created 360-degree videos of a number of locations within the bunker, including the living room/kitchen, aquaponics level, the interior of the elevator, and a level that simulates the beach. The video clips that follow are recordings of what I was experiencing through my VR headset while “inside” the 360 environments. They give a general idea of what the VR experience would be like for the user.
The drawings in the Android Portrait series depict the faces of highly-realistic humanoid robots, rendered with a degree of tenderness and psychological nuance that has traditionally been reserved for human subjects. The androids’ convincing yet disconcerting humanity echoes the goals of the roboticists and those funding their creation.
